Kakamega Bishop who was gifted a car by Kenya’s Deputy President William Ruto is dead.

Bishop Shem Shamalla of the African Church of the Holy Spirit died on Wednesday, October 27, morning at his Malava home in Kakamega County.

According to the African Church of the Holy Spirit Secretary Bishop Samson Khalwale, Shamalla died at the age of 84 after a short illness.

Khalwale further said that the body has not been taken to the morgue as it is against the church doctrine to preserve the dead in a morgue.

Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale eulogized Shamalla as a great friend, supporter, and a well-wisher who had already made his choice and shown his faithfulness.

Exactly a month ago, the presidential hopeful William Ruto gifted Shamalla a car during a visit to his church to popularise his Bottom-up gospel.

In his last public speech when he hosted the deputy president at the Church in Tumbeni village, Malava, Shamalla made an appeal to President Uhuru Kenyatta to reconcile with his estranged deputy president William Ruto for the sake of a peaceful 2022 General Election.

“It is biblically acceptable for brothers to live in peace as attested by Psalm 133.  President Uhuru and (William) Ruto were elected on a joint ticket and it is prudent that their friendship remains,” he said on September 18, 2021, before receiving the car donation from the former Agriculture Minister.

“It is with shock and disbelieves that I accept the sudden death of the High Priest of the African Church of the Holy Spirit, the Most Reverend Shamala. A friend, a supporter, and a well-wisher. You had already made your choice and you had shown your faithful the way. Fare thee well Kuka,” Khalwale wrote.

It is speculated that the Kakamega Bishop will be laid to rest on Saturday, October 30, at a “holy” ground within the precincts of the church.
