Kakamega Member of County Assembly (MCA) Phaustine Werimo has passed on exactly one month after she was sworn in.
Werimo commonly known as Mama Nyundo died on Thursday, October 27, in Kisumu after an unsuccessful operation at the Aga Khan Hospital.
“We are saddened by the news of the passing on of Phaustine Werimo (Kakamega County Assembly) this afternoon. Phaustine was a dedicated member of our party and a member of ODM Women where she played a big role. We pray for the family, friends, and relatives during this trying moment,” read the statement released by the party.
ODM deputy party leader Wycliffe Oparanya and former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya eulogized the legislator as a die-hard and loyal member of the Orange party.
“Werimo was a diehard and loyal member of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party where she defended our party policies with unrivaled gust and passion, earning her the name Mama Nyundo- a true soldier and mother of ODM Party in Kakamega County and the entire Western region,” Oparanya said.
“She defended our party policies with unrivaled gusto and passion, earning her the name ‘Mama Nyundo’. A true soldier and mother of ODM Party in Kakamega County and the entire Western region,” he added.
Werimo is among 30 MCAs who were nominated in 2022 bringing to a total of 90 MCAs in the Kakamega County Assembly.
Mama Nyundo served in the women’s wing of the party where she played major roles.
Her body has been moved from Agha Khan Kisumu to Kakamega County Referral Hospital morgue.
Her demise comes at a time the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s political party is mourning the death of Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa’s mother.
