Kakamega senator responds to claims William Ruto built his mansion

by Enock Ndayala

Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has denied allegations that Deputy President William Ruto built a house for him.

Speaking to the Standard on Sunday, March 6, the vocal legislator said he put up his house in Milimani estate using a loan he took at the county assembly while still serving as a Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Mwihako.

“(William) Ruto did not build a house for me and those saying he helped me are political idlers. I am a man of means and I currently have four homes I built on my own,” he said.

Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has denied allegations that Deputy President William Ruto built a house for him.

Malala who is among the former councilors eying gubernatorial seats in the August 9, General Election further revealed that he currently has four luxurious homes that he built single-handedly.

Malala was reacting to allegations by former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa that the second in command helped the legislator put up his mansion in return for political favours.

Echesa who was speaking during a live interview with a local TV station stated that he was the one who introduced Malala to Willam Ruto when he was still an MCA.

The ex-CS sensationally claimed that the presidential hopeful called him to inquire whether Senator Malala had a piece of land where he could set up a mansion for him.

He said he was handed over KSh 3 million by the former Agriculture Minister which he later gave it to the then Mwihako MCA to commence construction.

However, Malala acknowledged that indeed William Ruto gave him KSh 1.5 million only which he used to furnish the mansion since he had already done up to roofing.

Malala’s house is located in Milimani estate barely 500 meters from Kakamega State Lodge and Masinde Muliro University in Kakamega County.
