The comes barely a day after the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) summoned Senator Cleophas Malala for threatening to block the much-hyped Bukhungu II meeting.

Malala who surrendered himself to Kakamega Central Police Station said his earlier remarks were purely political, and that he never meant to whip up emotions.

“He (Malala) clarified that what he said during the Maragoli Cultural Festival was a political statement and that he does not intend to use violence or incite his followers into chaos during the rally,

“Malala said he will maintain peace during the rally. He further said that on Friday, during the Bukhungu II event, he will be at Mumias; 32 kilometers away from the convention,” Kakamega Central Sub-County Police Commander David Kabena told The Standard.

Speaking on Sunday, December 26, at the Vihiga Cultural Festival, Senator Malala said the Bukhungu II meeting aimed at installing Governor Wycliffe Oparanya as the Luhya spokesperson ahead of the 2022 elections will not go on as planned.

Malala said his party leader-cum-preferred presidential candidate, Musalia Mudavadi, “had not been consulted”.

The legislator said Kakamega was his political “bedroom”, and that he had immense say on who holds political gatherings in the county.

“You all know that Kakamega is my political territory. I want to tell the organizers of the said meeting that they must seek Mudavadi’s permission or else their meeting will not happen,

“But because Mudavadi has not given me a nod to allow them to convene their forum, I have officially called it off and no such meeting will happen at the Bukhungu Stadium on the 31st of December,” Malala said.
