Kalonzo allies are unpleased with Deputy President William Ruto and Raila Odinga’s constant visits to Ukambani area to drum up support for their presidential candidature.
The Wiper affiliated members opine that the visits by the two leaders are meant to repulse Kalonzo Musyoka, who is considered the regional kingpin.
Barely a week after holding a rally in Ukambani, William Ruto is set to visit Kitui County on Friday, November 12.
On the other hand, Raila Odinga will be received by a delegation led by Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana at Wote.
Kalonzo allies believe that Raila Odinga is working with other Ukambani Governors including Charity Ngilu (Kitui), Alfred Mutua (Machakos) and Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni) to outshine the Wiper Party leader.
“We are aware of the plans. The idea is to isolate Kalonzo and create a narrative that he has lost his grip. In addition, there is a notion that governors have resources to mobilise crowds,” Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo said.
On her part, Kitui Governr Charity Ngilu has been keen on having Kalonzo Musyoka on the same side with Raila Odinga.
“My prayer is that Kalonzo can open his eyes wide and work with Raila because the government positions are currently being shared out, failing which our community will for one more time be locked out of government,” Ngilu told Kalonzo in a recent function.
With numerous calls on Raila Odinga to work with Kalonzo Musyoka, the latter has also opened up to possibilities of working with William Ruto.
“If you hear them looking for me, tell them I am available because Kenyans must consult. If they want to reach out to me, they are most welcome,” Kalonzo stated.
This has been termed as Kalonzo’s usual ‘watermelon’ character, as he is open to working with both Ruto and Raila.
