Kalonzo claims charity Ngilu tried blocking Azimio-One Kenya Alliance deal

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has slammed Kitui governor Charity Ngilu, saying she was against the Azimio-One Kenya Alliance deal.

Speaking at an event in Tseikuru Technical Training Institute in Kitui County on Sunday, March 13, the former Vice President claimed that Ngilu kept persuading the former prime minister Raila Odinga not to sign the deal.

“Ngilu did not want anything to do with the Azimio-OKA grand coalition. She kept telling Raila Odinga not to sign into the deal,” Kalonzo said.

The One Kenya Alliance co-principals sensationally claimed that Governor Charity Ngilu did not want him to benefit from the deal.

“They didn’t want Kalonzo to benefit from anything. They didn’t want to hear about Azimio-Oka. That is the truth,” Kalonzo said in reference to Charity Ngilu.

Kalonzo was reacting to headlines in the local dailies following the behind-the-scenes intrigues that led to a six-hour delay in signing the deal between One Kenya Alliance and Azimio la Umoja.

The protracted negotiations saw the delegates’ conference start at 3 pm instead of the planned 8 am – much to the dismay of attendees.

“I was reading the papers this morning and they were reporting about the six-hour delay, the truth of the matter is that Raila had refused to sign as he was being prevented from signing by Charity Ngilu,” he said.

Speaking moments after the former Nasa principals had signed the deal, Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta commended the Wiper leader for shelving his presidential ambitions in favor of ODM leader Raila Odinga ahead of the August 9, elections.

“Ndungu yangu Kalonzo Musyoka ana uwezo wa kuwa rais lakini ameweka tamaa yake nyuma ili kuunganisha Kenya (My brother Kalonzo Musyoka has the capability to be the president, but he has put aside his personal ambition for the sake of uniting Kenya),” President Uhuru said.
