Kalonzo invites Raila to One Kenya Alliance party ‘we are forming next government’

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has invited former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to join the One Kenya Alliance party(OKA) in what appears as the two could still work together ahead of the 2022 elections.

Taking to his official social media account on Monday, July 26, hours after the ODM party agreed to share the Political Parties’ Fund with other NASA partners, Kalonzo expressed optimism that the OKA will form the next government should Raila join them.

“While exiting NASA we welcome ODM to join OKA for a more inclusive coalition as we prepare to form the next Government. Jubilee continues as our cooperation partner,” Kalonzo said in a Tweet.

Addressing journalists at party headquarters earlier on, the former Vice-president insisted that the outfit has exited NASA and should Raila join the One Kenya Alliance party, then the coalition will negotiate its presidential flag bearer.

“If ODM joins OKA, we will negotiate on OKA presidential flag bearer but they have to convince OKA that they have better ideas,” Kalonzo added.

Kalonzo and Raila have been engaged in a bitter war of words over sharing of the political parties fund received by ODM as well as Raila’s apparent refusal to honour a pledge to support Kalonzo Musyoka for the presidency in 2022.

In June 2021, Kalonzo in an interview with NTV said he will never work with Raila Odinga again. Kalonzo was Raila’s running mate in 2013 and 2017 where they lost to Jubilee’s Uhu-Ruto.

He further said he will not support the ODM leader for a third record time without a measure of reciprocity adding that he will only work with Odinga in 2022 if he supports his bid for the presidency.

“I am not a weakling… Raila and I have never sat to discuss 2022. I will be the most stupid person on earth to support Raila Odinga for president for the third time without a measure of reciprocity,” Kalonzo Musyoka said.

This prompted Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu to call upon Kalonzo Musyoka and his ODM counterpart Raila Odinga to unite ahead of the 2022 General Election.

He said the Raila-Kalonzo ticket was the only line-up capable of forming the next government by sending Deputy President William Ruto home in the 2022 presidential elections.

“If Kalonzo(Musyoka) and Raila (Odinga) fail to unite ahead of 2022, then (William) Ruto’s chances of success will be high. How will the Kamba community benefit if they choose to vote for Kalonzo and lose the presidency?

“We must accept and work with Raila so that we beat Ruto [in the 2022 presidential election],” she said.
