Kalonzo Musyoka allies ask him to reunite with Raila instead of Ruto

by Enock Ndayala

Allies of Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka have ruled out coalition talks between the former vice-president and Kenya’s Deputy President William Ruto ahead of the 2022 elections.

This is after the deputy president said he was ready to work with One Kenya Alliance (OKA) principal Kalonzo Musyoka.

But MPs allied to the presidential hopeful cautioned their party leader against signing a deal with the DP and instead urged him to pursue a reunion with ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Led by Makueni MP Dan Maanzo and his Borabu counterpart Benson Momanyi , the legislator said that it would be a big mistake for Kalonzo to support Ruto in the race to succeed as President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Maanzo told the Wiper leader to stick with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s handshake partner Raila Odinga stating that better the devil you know than an angel you don’t know.

“You know former Nasa principles understand each other better, we have gone through challenges together but we don’t know who William Ruto is,” he said as quoted by the Star.

On his part, Borabu MP Benson Momanyi said it could be better for the Wiper leader to work with the former National Super Alliance (NASA) flag bearer than the deputy president.

“We have not headed in the direction of working with (William) Ruto, former Nasa principals should come together. That is the best option,” Momanyi said.

On Sunday, November 7, the deputy president urged other presidential hopefuls with the same ideologies as his to join him in forming the next government.

“We are open and welcome all leaders who are ready to join us on lifting this country under our bottom-up economic model. We are prepared for those who want to work with us,” William Ruto said.

The call by the deputy president appeared to target OKA principal Kalonzo Musyoka, who recently stated that he was available for talks with William Ruto.

“If you hear them looking for me, tell them I am available because Kenyans must consult. If they want to reach out to me, they are most welcome,” said Kalonzo in response to a question on the possibility of him working with William Ruto.
