Kalonzo Musyoka opens talks to join Raila Odinga

by Amos Khaemba

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has officially initiated talks to join Azimio la Umoja led by Raila Odinga ahead of the August 9 General Election.

Addressing a press conference on Friday, February 25, One Kenya Alliance (OKA) stated that they have made up their mind in joining Jubilee and ODM parties to form a formidable coalition to face off the Kenya Kwanza alliance.

“The One Kenya Alliance wishes to inform Kenyans that it has officially initiated open and structured dialogue with like-minded political formations- namely the Jubilee coalition and the ODM party,” Kalonzo said.

According to the OKA statement, their joint coalition with Jubilee and ODM will be known as the Azimio-One Kenya Alliance.

“We are open to the formation of a Grand Coalition to be known as the Azimio – One Kenya Alliance that shall be anchored on three equal pillars,” Kalonzo added.

The former vice-president pointed out that their decision to join Azimio is based on the fact that the affiliate parties share political ideologies and plans for the nation.

“As OKA, we firmly believe in an open, honest, and structured dialogue whose basis is the promotion of national unity; upholding and respecting the dignity of all Kenyans; ending the culture of corruption and impunity, and restoring the decency of living within our borders,” said Kalonzo.

At the same time, Kalonzo revealed that the OKA principals will sign a coalition agreement coalition on Monday, February 28, before documents are deposited with the Registrar of Political Parties.

Apart from the Wiper leader, other OKA principals namely Gideon Moi of KANU and Cyrus Jirongo of the United Democratic Party were present during the press briefing.

The move by OKA come after the ODM party’s National Governing Council approved a resolution to have Raila Odinga vies for the presidency under the Azimio outfit.

Already parties subscribing to Azimio la Umoja have held their National Delegates Conventions where they have endorsed Odinga’s candidature.
