Kalonzo Musyoka rules out joining Azimio, ‘enough supporting Raila’

by Amos Khaemba

Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has ruled out joining Azimio la Umoja led by ODM leader Raila Odinga in the coming August 9 General Election.

While responding to media reports that One Kenya Alliance (OKA) was in talks to support Raila Odinga by joining Azimio la Umoja, Kalonzo said his alliance with Gideon Mois, Martha Karua, and Cyrus Jirongo is instead welcoming in partners.

Speaking in Huruma, Nairobi on Sunday, February 6, after a church service, the Wiper leader said OKA has grown big enough and other parties are free to join and not the other way round.

“I am not a person who wants anything from anyone. The leadership of the government is given by God. Therefore, I want to tell them that they are welcome to OKA and not OKA joining them,

“You all know that I have helped all of them in the past, all those many years we have helped people, this time they need to declare ‘Kalonzo Tosha’,” Kalonzo said in reference to him being Raila Odinga’s running-mate twice in a row.

This is not the first time Kalonzo is ruling out supporting the ODM leader. Last year he sensationally claimed that he will be the most stupid person if he supported Raila for the third time.

At the same time, the former vice-president refuted reports that OKA had demanded one of its principals to be named as Raila’s running mate in the August presidential election.

Kalonzo pointed out that OKA principals are leaders of integrity and cannot put conditions on other people in order to worth with them.

Kalonzo Musyoka’s comments come after a media report claimed that OKA had demanded to the Azimio team if they were to support ODM leader Raila Odinga.

According to The Sunday Nation, OKA will be demanding the running amate position and 50% of government appointments in an expected coalition negotiation with the Azimio la Umoja Movement.

Media reports also indicated that OKA will be pushing on zoning out the country among individual political parties, including presenting a candidate to be supported for a Nairobi seat.

There has been speculation of the OKA team joining the Azimio movement after they technically ruled out working with the Kenya Kwanza alliance.
