The failure by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka to attend Raila Odinga’s mock swearing-in at Uhuru Park after the disputed 2017 presidential election has come back to haunt him.

Speaking in Kisii Sports Ground on Thursday, March 3, during the Azimio la Umoja rally, Dagoreti North MP Simba Arati, hit out at Kalonzo for abandoning Raila at the most critical time.

The outspoken legislature castigated the former vice-president for demanding an endorsement from the ODM leader yet he failed to be sworn in together with Raila.

“Wakati tulikula kiapo pale Uhuru park, mimi Simba nilikua huko. Baba Raila Amolo Alikua huko, wewe ulikua wapi?( When were taking oath at Uhuru Park, I Simba Arati was there, Raila Odinga was there, where were you?” Arati posed

“When President Uhuru was being sworn in at Kasarani and Raila Odinga was being sworn in at Uhuru Park, am asking our friends, those who are busy asking for endorsement where were they when we needed them most?” Arati added.

The sentiments by Raila ally come after Kalonzo unexpectedly released the secretive NASA deal and asked the ODM leader to honor it ahead of the August General Elections.

According to the document released by Kalonzo and seen by Kivumbi.co.ke, the former prime minister agreed to support Kalonzo Musyoka’s candidature in 2022 polls irrespective of the 2017 election outcome.

“By this agreement, the parties agree that principal H (Raila Odinga) will be NASA’s presidential nominee and that principal Q (Kalonzo Musyoka) will be his running mate. this agreement will remain valid until the 2022elections whether or not NASA wins the 2017 presidential elections,” Reads part of the agreement signed on April 30, 2017.

2017 Raila mock swearing-in

On Tuesday, January 30, 2018, the former prime minister defied the government warning and went ahead to inaugurate himself as the ‘peoples president’ at a charged rally in Nairobi.

During Raila’s swearing-in, NASA principals comprising Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi, and Moses Wetang’ula failed to show up.
