Kalonzo Musyoka’s grip of Ukambani vote under threat as governors gang up

by Enock Ndayala

Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu, Alfred Mutua of Machakos, and Makueni’s Kivutha Kibwana have ganged up against Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

The trio vowed to support ODM leader Raila Odinga‘s presidential bid poked holes at the One Kenya Alliance co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka’s leadership accusing him of ‘failing’ the region.

While spearheading the Azimio mtaani campaigns in Makueni on Wednesday, February 16, the governors reiterated that the Kamba community was tired of staying in the opposition, adding that being out of government had cost the region immensely in terms of development.

“We have to be in the next government which will be formed by Raila Odinga under the Azimio la Umoja Movement,” Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu said.

Ngilu, a fierce critic of Deputy President William Ruto said, by joining Raila’s quest for the country’s top leadership, the region’s electorate sought meaningful representation in the Cabinet, increased resources, opportunities for their professionals, and shared prosperity with the rest of the country.

Echoing Ngilu’s sentiments, outgoing Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua and his Makueni counterpart Kivutha Kibwana said time was ripe for an Odinga presidency noting that the former prime minister was best suited to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta who is expected to retire in August.

“Raila is a trustworthy leader who will bring about quality leadership, strengthen devolution, end marginalization and reengineer the country’s economy,” said Kibwana.

On his part, Mutua accused Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka of attempting to auction his people for selfish gains terming the move as detrimental to Kambas endeavor to be in government.

They, however, warned the residents against DP William Ruto’s forays saying the second in command was a self-seeking, political trickster who Kenyans cannot afford to entrust with the country’s top leadership.
