Kalonzo: Raila Odinga needs me to beat William Ruto

by Enock Ndayala

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has said that he is the only one who will help Azimio la Umoja –OK presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga to beat Deputy President William Ruto in this year’s elections.

In an interview with The Standard on Monday, May 9, the former vice president said Raila’s bitter rival William Ruto will be the best beneficiary if he is not picked as Azimio’s running mate.

“If I am not picked, it’s obvious that all the votes due unto me may troop to Ruto’s direction. Is that what they want? It’s rather obvious,” Kalonzo said.

Kalonzo who is among the front runners in the search for Raila’s running mate further claimed that some forces within the Azimio la Umoja-OK coalition are working to sabotage Raila’s presidential bid, which is why they are opposed to his bid.

“Either the devils are walking among them or they do not want him to become president. In fact, the moment they don’t pick me, it will confirm to me that some people do not want Raila to become president,” the Wiper leader said.

The former Home Affairs Minister further threatened to quit the Azimio if he is not picked as Raila’s running mate.

Kalonzo who was quick to state that he does not support Deputy President said he will have to consider other options in the event his supporters tell him to do so.

“Those are thieves…Kenya Kwisha, but if things get thick, and my people tell me no, what do I do? Perhaps I could tell them to hang on in there and support Raila, but they will ask me whether I am mad,” he said.

The Wiper leader who had maintained that he will not appear before the seven-member advisory panel tasked with interviewing possible running mates for Raila Odinga s today expected to face the panel.
