Kalonzo refuses to meet team searching Raila Odinga running mate

by Enock Ndayala
The Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has given the clearest hint of working with the ODM leader Raila Odinga in the coming August 9, General Election.

Wiper boss Kalonzo Musyoka has said he will not appear before the Azimio running mate selection Panel.

This was after the Azimio la Umoja-OK presidential campaign spokesperson Makau Mutua said that vetting is a norm in most democratic nations meant to show transparency.

But Kalonzo claimed that apart from being Vice-president for late President Mwai Kibaki, he has been Raila’s running mate twice and therefore does not need to be interviewed.

He has instead called for a meeting with Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to discuss the position which has attracted at least five politicians.

“Msione kama Kenya ni Amerika, Haiwezekani. Yani unaenda kufanyia Kalonzo interview kuwa naibu wa Raila? Lakini wananchi wenyewe dio wamesema Kalonzo amekua Vice President wa Mwa Kibaki kwa miaka mitano, Kalonzo amekua running mate wa Raila 2013 and 2017, hii ni interview gani unaenda kufanyiwa? Kalonzo said.

Loosely translated to “Don’t think Kenya is America, It’s impossible. That you are going to interview Kalonzo as Raila’s deputy? But it’s Kenyans who have said that Kalonzo has been the Vice President to late President Mwai Kibaki for five years, Kalonzo has been Raila Odinga’s running mate from 2013 and 2017, what kind of interview is this which you are going for?” Kalonzo said during a stopover at Sultan Hamud and Emali town on Thursday, May 5.

This comes even as Azimio Council Secretary-General Junet Mohammed said that those seeking to be Raila’s running mate must go through the vetting process failure to which they will be automatically disqualified.

Earlier on Kivumbo.co.ke had reported that the Wiper leader said he deserved better in Azimio la Umoja- OK coalition party for sacrificing his presidential ambitions for ODM leader Raila Odinga.
