Wiper chief Kalonzo Musyoka has announced that he will begin his 2027 presidential campaigns as soon as Raila Odinga is sworn in as Kenya’s fifth president.
Speaking in Tharaka Nithi on Monday, March 15, Kalonzo who recently shelved his presidential ambitions in favor of ODM leader Raila Odinga in the August 9, elections said he had learned a lot and that he won’t sit and wait for endorsement from anyone.
The former vice president said he will follow Deputy President William Ruto’s footsteps and begin his 2027 presidential preparations in time.
“Ukweli usemwe. Huyu mtu anaitwa Ruto alijua atakuwania urais 2022. Kwa hivyo alipokuwa naibu wa rais, alianza kampeni papo hapo. Hata na mimi nimejifunza hapo kwa Ruto…Tutaaapisha Raila na mimi naanza kampeni papo hapo,”
“Truth has been told. This man named Ruto knew he would run for the presidency in 2022. So when he was deputy president, he started the campaign immediately. Even I have learned from Ruto… We will swear in Raila and I will start the campaign the following day, ” Kalonzo said.
Kalonzo who last week announced a ‘Raila Tosha’ said he shelved his statehouse ambitions for Raila Odinga twice and that he was expecting the ODM leader to endorse him in the August 9, elections but all was vain just because he did not begin his presidential campaigns early enough.
He further said to avoid being shortchanged as it is currently with the deputy president, Kalonzo maintained that he will work his way out and that he will not sit and wait for endorsements even from the people he will have helped to win the presidency.
“Nilingojea mzee aseme Kalonzo tosha na nikaona vile anatembea akaona safari hii amekuja na bomu sio hata na risasi moja vile alikuwa anasema awali (I waited for the old man to say Kalonzo tosha but I saw him walking and he saw this time he came with a bomb not even with a single bullet as he was saying earlier),” Kalonzo said.
