“In the past, I have never had an opportunity, not even desired to listen to him (Raila Odinga). He has always wanted to give us a message but unfortunately, Kikuyus never wanted to hear anything from him since he was vying against our own,” he said.

Kanini Kega, who is a supporter of Raila Odinga says he has realized the ODM leader has been having the interests of Mt Kenya at heart all along.

“For now, I have tried to engage him, he is very resourceful. When I look back and see the actions of Raila and his father Jaramogi, I decided to listen to him,” he explained.

The Kieni MP also explained how getting the Mt Kenya vote is an uphill task that involves a lot of consultations

“In the mountain we usually make our decisions after doing a lot of consultations. You will be lying to yourself to say that you have bagged the mountain. Before we make any major decision, we usually retreat and discuss,” he said.

As explained by Kanini Kega, the decision to welcome Raila Odinga comes after years of animosity between Kikuyu spokesperson and Raila Odinga.

A number of Kikuyu leaders have come out to admit that Raila Odinga could not have gotten the support of central in the earlier elections because they had poisoned electorates into hating him.
