Kanu chairman Gideon Moi changes tune, says he’s firmly with Kalonzo

by Enock Ndayala

Kanu chairman Gideon Moi has refuted claims that he has ditched the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) for ODM leader Raila Odinga’s Azimio la Umoja.

This comes just a day after the Baringo Senator announced plans to ditch OKA for Azimio la Umoja ahead of the August 9, General Election.

However, in a statement on Thursday, March 10, posted on his social media pages, Gideon Moi stated that he was firmly in OKA adding that he was fully committed to the coalition.

“KANU is firmly in OKA and we are united as a coalition. Our position is that our talks with Azimio and any other parties must be structured, open, and honest. Therefore, KANU has not changed its position whatsoever as reported by a section of the media,” he said in a Tweet.

The Kanu supremo insisted that he would only join Azimio la Umoja after structured dialogue as advocated for by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

“We are committed to the cause of OKA and we are not about to deviate from that path until an amicable position has been attained in the ongoing talks,” he said.

Speaking during the launch of Samburu West MP Naisula Lesuuda’s reelection bid on a KANU party ticket in the August 9, General Election, Moi indicated that KANU will join Azimio la Umoja coalition which currently has Raila Odinga as its defacto presidential candidate.

“As KANU, we are with you in Azimio. We are together. Very soon you will hear our announcement. What is most important is that we stay as one irrespective of our differences in political ideologies,” Gideon Moi said at Kenyatta Stadium in Maralal town Samburu County.

This comes even as Kanu secretary general Nick Salat is pushing the Baringo senator to walk out of the coalition for being indecisiveness on working with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

“What does your friend want? We have tried to give him everything but he is taking forever to decide. Time is running out. If your partner is not willing, leave him and lead us into Azimio. How long will we babysit him, we have to go,” he stated.
