Karen Nyamu: Warembo wa Nairobi wanataka Ruto, chuma ya nguvu

by Amos Khaemba
Kenya’s President William Ruto in his presidential campaigns for the 2022 elections promised to lower the cost of living within his first year in office.

Nairobi senatorial hopeful Karen Nyamu made the crowd go crazy when she referred to William Ruto as ”Chuma ya imesima” in Ruto’s campaign tour of Nairobi County.

Nyamu called on Kibra residents to vote for UDA presidential hopeful William Ruto suggesting that he is young and energetic compared to his main rival the ODM leader Raila Odinga whom she termed too old to lead the nation.

“Nimetumwa an werembo wote was nchi hii, wanasema wale wanatupangia mzee kwa ma hoteli wawache madharau, sisi tuko na chuma hapa, tunataka chuma imesimama si ndio…..chuma ni….chuma ni…. (I have been sent by Kenyan ladies and they say they want a young and energetic man, not an old man being forced on us,)” Nyamu said as the crowd cheered her on, obviously impressed by how she sexualised he address to them.

Nyamu’s comments were a direct comparison of the two leading presidential contenders, Ruto and Raila in terms of their age and energy.

Her criticism was aimed at Mt. Kenya Foundation for forcing ODM leader on Kenyans, saying women of this country will only support William Ruto, likening him to a young and energetic man in bed.

The Nairobi Water and sewerage director was a hopeful for the Nairobi Woman Representative seat in the 2017 election but lost the Jubilee party nomination to Esther Passaris.

The businesswoman who has been the subject of publicized relationship with a local musician recently joined the United Democratic Alliance party in the run-up to the August 2022 election.

In his speech, the Deputy President also hit out at the government over what he said was an attempt to impose a president on the people.

“We have brains, we can choose for ourselves. You can’t choose for us,” Ruto said.

“Will we vote for a project selected by people in a hotel or are you going to select your own preferred candidate?’’ Ruto asked the crowd, in a clear attack on ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Ruto called on youths to register as voters so as to participate in electing leaders of their choice.
