Karua effect: ICT cabinet secretary now says Raila will win presidency by 64%

The move by the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga to name Martha Karua has greatly reshaped the 2022 presidential race.

Since May 16, when Karua.was named the running mate, all opinion polls have indicated that Raila Odinga’s popularity has been on an upward trajectory.

His frequent visits to the vote-rich region of Mt Kenya have also come in handy as recent surveys have shown the ODM leader’s presidential bid gaining momentum in the region.

ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru opines that Martha Karua popularly known as the Iron lady will ensure Raila defeats the Kenya Kwanza alliance presidential flag bearer in round one.

Speaking in an interview on KTN News on Sunday, June 12, the ICT CS claimed that intelligence reports indicate Raila Odinga’s national support currently stands at over 64%.

“There are several reports that I continue to see and those numbers continue to change. The numbers are actually in favor of Raila Odinga. It is now over 64%,” said Mucheru.

Mucheru who has in the recent past been on the receiving end of the Kenya Kwanza alliance team noted Raila Odinga’s increasing popularity is directly linked to the support Martha Karua is receiving around the county.

In the battle for the Mt Kenya Kenya votes, the CS expressed confidence that Karua will deliver 50% of the Mt Kenya region votes to Azimio.

Mucheru further argued that William Ruto’s 2022 running mate Rigathi Gachagua was an asset to Azimio given that many of the blunders in his speeches have presumably won Azimio more votes without much effort.

“He is a friend of mine, we come from Nyeri. I can say he has been a great blessing to us in Azimio in the things that he says. These ICT people, when you are telling them you are going to break up a (communications company) because big companies are bad, what kind of thinking is that.” Mucheru started.

In previous Interior PS Karanja Kibicho had also collaborated with Mucheru’s remarks that the former prime minister will win the August polls by more than 60 %.

“We don’t speak from emotions; we speak from facts. So if you asked me what the data is saying today and because you are entitled to my answer as a public servant, I would give you as it is. The intelligence data says it is 60% in the first round,” Kibicho said in an interview with a local television station.
