Kenyans call for action against Richard Onyonka over these inciteful remarks

by Enock Ndayala

Kenyans now want actions taken against Kitutu Chache MP Richard Onyonka over his remarks over the weekend which many think are inciteful.

Onyonka who was addressing a rally in his Kisii County on Sunday, January 9, warned Deputy President William Ruto to expect a hostile reaction in the region should there be any Kisii who would be reported to have lost his/her life as a result of election violence.

“Watu wetu waliuawa kule Eldoret na West Pokot. Bado hatujasahau, tumekusamehe lakini wakati huu ukigusa Mkisii hata mmoja, hutawahi kuja hapa Kisi (Our people were killed in Eldoret and West Pokot. We forgave you (William Ruto) but this time around if someone hurts anyone from the Kisii community, you will never set foot in kisii)i,” Onyonka indirectly told William Ruto.

This did not settle well with a section of Kenyans online who have since demanded the immediate arrest of the former Ford Kenya deputy party leader stating that such remarks will hurt this nation a great deal.

“Why hasn’t anyone called out Richard Onyonka on this very virulent speech or why hasn’t the Azimio Brigade called for the DCI or DPPs to act?

“This selective activism will hurt this nation a great deal. Arrest Onyonka if you are truly none partisan,” said a social media user identified as Mwakilishi Enock Onkoba.

This comes barely a day after Meru Senator Mithika Linturi was arrested after his “Madoadoa” utterance at William Ruto mega rally in Eldoret.

“Hope this is not a hit squad which we are used to. Let the public know that am in police hands headed to Nakuru police headquarters” Linturi said to the press while being arrested.

A section of Kenyans accused DPP and DCI of fighting hate speech selectively as the country nears the much-awaited 2022 General Election.

“This is wrong and must be condemned in the strongest terms possible! DPP please you must need arrest Onyonka. Kenyans, we don’t have another country, we must preach peace and tranquility,” said Justus Sang.
