Kenyans on twitter think President Uhuru has handed Sakaja an easy win in Nairobi gubernatorial race

As the clock ticks towards the August 2022 election, showdowns loom in at least 10 counties where big shots are gearing up for fierce battles for the coveted gubernatorial seat.

The reports that Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition has settled on Polycarp Igathe as its Nairobi gubernatorial candidate has generated a lot of discussion on social media with some saying it gives. Sakaja has a better chance of winning.

According to the social media users, Westland MP Tim Wanyonyi would have provided strong competition to Sakaja compared to what the former Nairobi deputy governor will provide.

One random Twitter user, Karen Wanjiru warned the Azimio team against gambling with the Nairobi gubernatorial seat.

“Picking Polycarp Igathe to run on Azimio Ticket for Nairobi Governor will be handing over Nairobi top seat to Johnson Sakaja on a silver plate. Sakaja will have Igathe for dinner mapema sana. Let’s stop playing aki! Tukuwe serious!,” Wanjiru wrote on Twitter.

Another Twitter user Beverly Karani said, “Am still for Tim Wanyonyi for the Nairobi seat. Anything else we shall be giving Sakaja a field day. Our opponents will take this seat as early as 6.00 am.”
“Azimio’s ‘ arithmetics’ in Nairobi are not ‘entering’.Uhuru wants to impose Igathe. If they drop Tim Wanyonyi, they lose Luyha’s to Sakaja. Kalonzo has his preferred running mate. If they don’t consider him they lose Kambas. The game they started with tribal kings is haunting them,” another Twitter user wrote.

Speaking Yesterday on Citizen TV Igathe had excluded confidence that with the Azimio ticket he will defeat Sakaja early in the morning.

“We’ll beat him (Sakaja) at exactly 8:57 am, it will be a done job because all the people who are my supporters wake up at 5 in the morning…” Polycarp Igathe said.

Sentiments by Kenyans on Twitter come after reports that President Uhuru prevailed upon Wanyonyi and other Azimio-leaning gubernatorial aspirants for Nairobi top seat to shelve their ambition and instead support Igathe.

According to the new lineup that is expected to be unveiled today, Polycarp Igathe will be the governor candidate with Tim Wanyonyi as his deputy.
