Kenyatta University to award President Uhuru Kenyatta’s sister honorary degree

Kenyatta University has nominated President Uhuru Kenyatta’s sister Kristina Wambui Pratt for the conferment of an honorary degree.

Wambui who holds a Bachelor of Science in Special Education from Kutztown State University and a Master of Science in Education Psychology from Lehigh University Pennsylvania, USA is set to receive a Doctor of Humane Letters (Honoris Casual) degree.

In a notice published in the local dailies on Friday, July 8, the University said her nomination was in recognition of Wambui’s commitment and service to the people living with disabilities.

“Her dedication to serving people living with disabilities saw her travel all over the country scouting for children with special needs,” the notice read in part.

While defending her nomination, the institute which is at loggerheads with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration over a parcel of land said Uhuru’s sister’s contribution to the sector had been immense, spanning more than forty years.

“Her inspirational vision and devotion to disabilities have been a source of courage and transformation to many in Kenya and beyond,” the notice read in part.

Wambui, who is President Uhuru Kenyatta’s elder sister, was appointed to the Chair National Fund for Disabled of Kenya in January 2002, a position she has held.

Her contributions to National Fund for the Disabled Kenyans include lobbying for the allocation of over KSh 370 million that has helped different groups of PLWDs.

She further serves as a Board member of Kambui School for the Deaf, Jacaranda School for the Mentally Handicapped, Kenya Society for the Blind, and Thika School for the Blind.

Her conferment is set to be held on Friday, July 22, when the institution will be holding its 51st graduation ceremony.
