Kericho senator dismisses Raila’s promise to jail corrupt leaders

by Nderi Caren

Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot has dismissed Raila Odinga’s promise to jail corrupt leaders once he assumes office.

In a post on his Twitter account, the Kericho Senator, who is a diehard supporter of Deputy President William Ruto said fighting corruption is none of Raila’s business.

“Fighting corruption is not any politician’s job, least of all a president. MCAs and MPs can at most do oversight. Constitutionally, it is the mandate of EACC (Ethics and Anti- Corruption Commission). What presidential candidates should promise Kenyans is that they will not use EACC to fight political battles. That is it,” Kericho Senator wrote.

In what appeared to be a direct attack on DP Ruto, ODM leader Raila Odinga on June 3 said that when he clinches power, all corrupt leaders will be jailed.

He questioned the source of DP Ruto’s money that he uses to make church contributions on Sundays.

“They are hyenas. You see them come here in sheep’s clothing and claim they will fundraise for women and youth groups. That is stolen money. The people busy going around the country in choppers dishing out money should be in Shimo la Tewa.

“Where does he get the millions from? No one questions where this money is from. When we get into government, our first duty will be to jail all these people,” Raila said.

Raila Odinga’s sentiments come after concerns on the number of legislators in DP Ruto’s camp who are on the radar of EACC over corruption cases.

On Sunday, the Daily Nation newspaper ran a story on how Ruto allies are leading in corruption charges.

Some of the members listed included;

1. Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua,

2. Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria,

3. Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko,

4. Sirisia MP John Waluke,

5. Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa,

6. Migori Governor Okoth Obado,

7. Meru Senator Mithika Linturi and

8. Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu.

This article sparked outrage from DP Ruto’s camp.
