Kiambu politician’s husband found dead 6 days after disappearing

Kiambu politician Gladys Chania’s husband George Mwangi went missing on Sunday, October 9.

According to a police report filed at Kamwangi police station, Mwangi disappeared from their matrimonial home in Mangu, Kiambu County.

Mwangi who was an electrical engineer based in Kigali, Rwanda, had jetted back into the country and was scheduled to fly out on Tuesday, October 11.

However, on Friday, October 14, the Daily Nation reported that the body of a Kiambu politician’s husband was found dumped in the Kieni forest, Gatundu North Constituency.

The body of the 58-year-old was found wrapped in a polythene bag.

“My husband was alive on Sunday morning. He went downstairs and never came back. He did not carry his mobile phone and in the evening when he failed to show up, the next day I reported the matter at Kamwangi police station and later at Mwea police post, which is within my jurisdiction,

“We have been married for 24 years and have three children. He had not expressed any fear for his life,’’ she said.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the father of three was hit on the head with a blunt object and his face was disfigured with acid.

Detectives have launched investigations although it is widely reported that the deceased had several active court cases.

For instance, the engineer was facing two charges at the Thika law courts.

He was accused of defrauding two locals of their KSh 400,000 by promising to help them secure better jobs in the United States of America (USA).

Furthermore, a local church was seeking more than KSh 3.5 million from Mwangi’s organization Right at Home Rehabilitation Centre.

Chania contested for the Kiambu Woman Rep seat in the August 9, General Election but lost the seat to Ann Wamuratha of President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
