Kigeugeu hitmaker and the incumbent Starehe MP Charles Kanyi alias Jaguar has missed out on an opportunity to defend his seat on the United Democratic Alliance(UDA) ticket.

The party instead opted to settle for EALA MP Simon Mbugua following ‘consensus’ talks within the party ahead of the August General Election.

On Thursday, April 21, pictures of Mbugua having received the UDA certificate surfaced online much to the surprise of the singer who is finalizing his first term as a Member of Parliament.

The singer-turned-lawmaker took to social media to express his displeasure with the Deputy William Ruto-led party’s decision.

“The people of Starehe were denied their democratic right to go to the ballot again for the nominations and choose their leader,

“The party decided to carry out opinion polls to determine who to award the nomination certificate and it has been done,” Jaguar wrote on Twitter.

The Lawmaker said the new development confirms his fears of there being a wider scheme within the party to deny him the party ticket to defend his seat.

Jaguar revealed that he is considering defending his seat in the August election as an independent candidate.

“Could this be an outcome of certificates that started making rounds before nominations? Is democracy at stake here? I will be holding discussions with the people of Starehe and deciding on the way forward,

” The voice of the people matters.” Jaguar started.

Starehe Constituency is part of the electoral areas in which Deputy President William Ruto’s party had canceled nominations due to disruptions and chaos.

UDA National Elections Board Antony Mwaura on Tuesday, April 19, said the party had instead initiated opinion polls to settle on suitable candidates for Kamukunji, Embakasi East, and Starehe parliamentary aspirants ahead of the August 9, General Election.

“The board also clarified that there will be no nominations for Embakasi East and Kamukunji constituencies. Instead, alternative methods as provided by the party constitution will be applied,” Mwaura said.

The nominations in Dagoreti North and Starehe had been scheduled to take place on Thursday, April 14, but were pushed back due to disruptions and chaos.
