Kirinyaga senator advises men to marry teachers if they want to succeed

by Enock Ndayala

Kirinyaga senator James Murango has advised locals to consider marrying teachers if they want to succeed in their lives.

Murango, who was elected on President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party ticket in the August 9, elections, said he would not have become a senator if he had not married a teacher.

While little is known about his spouse, the legislator heaped praises on teachers saying there was no a good partner than teachers.

“Mimi nilioa mwalimu na hakuna bibi mzuri ama bwana mzuri kama mwalimu. Wakati tuling’ang’ana na bibi yangu aliniambia kuwa anaweza badilisha wajinga 30 kwa darasa sembuse mimi mtu mmoja kwa nyumba,” he said.

Loosely translated to: “I married a teacher and there is no good wife or good husband like a teacher. When we were struggling with my wife, she told me that if she can change 30 idiots in a class, why not me one person in a house.”

Teachers are regarded as one of the top professions to date.

The legislator hit news headlines in the build-up to the August 9, elections when he was the majority leader in the Kirinyaga County government.

This was after the former Member of the County Assembly was arraigned at a Mombasa High Court just days before the just-ended elections.

Murango, who was charged with allegedly forging KSh 8.8 million Kenya Ports Authority tender however said he was being targeted for supporting the then UDA presidential candidate William Ruto.

“I’m being targeted because of my political inclination. It is very sad that I was arrested in Kirinyaga, but I was brought all the way to Mombasa despite the fact that we have courts in Kerugoya and Nairobi,” he said.
