Kirinyaga woman Rep opens up on why she dumped William Ruto’s party

by Enock Ndayala

Kirinyaga Woman Rep Purity Ngirici has broken her silence on why she dumped Deputy President William Ruto’s party.

According to her, she was unhappy with the way UDA officials were treating her even after investing heavily in the party.

Speaking in Gakuyu on Wednesday, December 29, Ngirici accused UDA officials of favoring her opponent, Governor Anne Waiguru a clear indication that would be rigged out at the primaries.

Kirinyaga Woman Rep Purity Ngirici has broken her silence on why she dumped Deputy President William Ruto’s party.

Ngirici who is eying the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat in next year’s General Election disclosed that she was called at William Ruto’s party headquarters in Nairobi and told to step down and vie for the Mwea parliamentary seat.

“When I appeared at the headquarters, the officials tried to convince me to give up my gubernatorial ambitions and vie for the Mwea parliamentary seat on a UDA ticket. I refused, as they were determined to kill my dream,” Ngirici said.

While officially ditching William Ruto’s party, Ngirici warned aspirants eying various seats on a UDA ticket in next year’s General Election to watch out telling them to expect unfair nominations.

“If UDA officials are telling me to vie for a junior seat, do you expect nominations to be free and fair?” she posed.

While exuding confidence that she will unseat Governor Anne Waiguru as an independent candidate, Ngirici said her eyes are set on the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat and that she will not shelve her ambitions.

“In 2022, I will not stand with any political party. I will seek to be elected as a governor, as an individual, and I’m confident that I will sail through,” Ngirici said.

This comes barely days after the Kirinyaga Woman Rep withdrew her support for Deputy President William Ruto who is seeking to succeed retiring President Uhuru Kenyatta.
