Kirinyaga Woman Rep takes on Ruto days after exiting UDA ‘outsiders cannot dictate to us’

by Enock Ndayala

Kirinyaga Woman Rep Wangui Ngirici has accused Deputy President William Ruto of wanting to dictate to the vote-rich Mt Kenya region just days after exiting UDA.

While terming William Ruto as an ‘outsider’, Ngirici in a series of tweets on Wednesday, January 5, said the recent push by the deputy president to have those backing his State House bid to fold their parties clearly shows he is after dictating to the region once he ascends to power.

“The interests of Mt Kenya can’t be dictated by outsiders. It’s only through partnerships and election of independent-minded leaders that Mt Kenya will benefit,” Ngirici said.

Ngirici further advised those Tanga Tanga politicians jostling to be William Ruto’s running mate from the Mt Kenya region not to expect the required respect from Ruto.

“We as Mt Kenya might produce a Deputy President but we’ll only be sure that he/she shall be respected if we have a solid coalition,

“We might not be producing a President in 2022 but we have the numbers to determine who the President becomes,” she added.

Her remarks come barely days after the Kirinyaga gubernatorial aspirant dumped William Ruto’s UDA party.

In a declaration on Wednesday, December 29, the MP stated that she will now vie for the Kirinyaga governor’s seat as an independent candidate.

“In 2022, I will not stand with any political party. I will seek to be elected as a governor, as an individual, and I’m confident that I will sail through,” she stated.

While exiting the outfit she had heavily invested in, the vocal legislator said she was unhappy with the way the party officials were treating her.

According to her, she was being coerced to shelve her gubernatorial ambitions in favour of incumbent Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, claims that the party has since dismissed.
