Kisumu man feasts on cow dung to protest high cost of living

by Enock Ndayala

Business in Kisumu was paralyzed for the better part of Friday, March 10, as hundreds of Azimio supporters took to the streets to protest the high cost of living.

The supporters took to the streets just a day after former Prime Minister Raila Odinga officially launched the nationwide mass protests after the 14-day ultimatum he issued to President William Ruto lapsed.

Raila had last month given the Head of State up to Wednesday, March 8, to bring down the cost of living and expedite the opening of the IEBC servers for the 2022 presidential results.

Business in Kisumu was paralyzed for the better part of Friday, March 10, as hundreds of Azimio supporters took to the streets to protest the high cost of living.

As such Raila who on Thursday, March 9, wore military gear announced that the protests will begin on March 20 in Nairobi.

However, a section of his supporters in Nyanza decided to kick off the protests in earnest.

The residents who held demonstrations in protest over the high cost of living converged in Kondele where they started matching towards the county commissioner’s office.

The protestors chanted anti-government slogans and lamented about the high cost of living and high taxes.

During the protests, a man was captured feasting on cow dung and water to protest the high cost of living.

The middle-aged man whose identity still remains unknown was captured sitting next to police officers eating animal waste as the crowd cheered him.

The man who wore a white t-shirt, blue pair of jeans trousers, and a white cap was seen with a plate full of cow dung and a bottle of water mixed with juice.

While announcing the start of country-wide protests, opposition leader Raila Odinga listed 15 reasons that he says are grounds to declare President Ruto’s administration “illegitimate”.

He made the proclamation at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation offices in Upper Hill, Nairobi where he addressed journalists.
