Lamu Senator Anwar Loitiptip arrested for shooting woman

Lamu Senator Anwar Loitiptip was arrested on Sunday, October 25 after allegedly shooting a woman at Kanu Grounds in Nanyuki, Laikipia County.

The shooting incident that occurred at around 2 am on Sunday left the 32-year-old woman with a gunshot wound on her right leg.

“Joy Makena, aged 32 years was shoot [sic] on her right leg above the ankle after a quarrel ensued between her and the senator Lamu county Hon. Anwar,” read part of a police report.

After the shooting incident, Senator Anwar Loitiptip is said to have fled the scene, with police officers recovering 13 bullets from his security detail.

However, on Sunday evening the Senator turned himself at the Nanyuki police station where he was arrested.

The Senator dismissed the assault allegations, saying that he had been attacked by two women and a man, and he shot in self-defense.

“I am at a hospital for some checkup and will speak on the matter later, but the truth is that I was attacked by a knife-wielding gang last night,” Anwar Loitiptip told the Standard.

The incident comes barely a week after the Lamu Senator was involved in another altercation at the coast.

On Tuesday, October 19, Anwar is said to have assaulted one of his political opponents at Manda Airport.

After biding goodbye to Deputy President William Ruto, Anwar is said to have harassed and kicked Francis Mugo at the Manda Airport Jetty.

He is accused of breaking the youthful politician’s eyeglasses, snatching his mobile phone, and attempted to throw him in the Indian ocean.

“I am disappointed at Senator Loitiptip’s behavior. He attacked me immediately after DP Ruto boarded his flight and left Manda Airport.

He forcefully took my phone. broke my eye glasses and injured me in the right hand and left eye,” Mugo recalled.
