Collins Kibet Toroitich, late President Daniel Moi’s grandson recently relocated to Kawangware, one of the Nairobi’s estates believed to be the cheapest to live in.
This is after Kibet, who is the son of former rally driver Jonathan Moi, son of Kenya’s longest-serving President Daniel Moi went bankrupt.
The 44-year-old used to eat the life with a big spoon but ran broke after the death of his parents and grandfather who died in February 2020.
According to a report published in Daily Nation Newspaper, Kibet relocated from Nairobi’s posh Lavington estate to neighboring low-income Kawangware estate.
“He used to live in a huge apartment in Lavington, Nairobi, where he paid at least KSh 200,000 monthly,
“He also drove a Toyota Land Cruiser V8 and ran a number of companies and businesses,” his friend said as quoted by the Daily Nation.
This is after it emerged that Kibet who has been staying in Lavington has rent arrears that have accumulated to a tune of KSh240,000 for the past five months.
At his peak, late President Daniel Moi’s grandson ran several businesses that included a clearing and forwarding company before he sunk into depression and alcoholism.
Sources further revealed that Collins, a trained pilot in the United States is currently unemployed and is struggling to make both ends meet.
“He is currently jobless and is only trying to survive,” the source intimated.
In September 2021, Kibet told a Nakuru court that he is not only jobless but also broke that he cannot pay the KSh 1 million monthly child support demanded by his supposedly estranged wife, Gladys Jeruto Tagi.
He further told the court that he currently makes a living off help from well-wishers, mostly friends and some few relatives. Last week, Kibet who is the eldest son of Jonathan Moi in court documents said that the true value of his grandfather’s wealth is over KSh300 billion.
