President William Ruto’s UDA party on Tuesday, October 3, submitted its proposal to the National Dialogue Committee (NDC) at the Bomas of Kenya.

City lawyer Ahmednassir Abdullahi has dismissed the Azimio la Umoja presidential ticket terming it as too weak to face off with that of Kenya Kwanza.

On Monday, May 16, the Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga, announced that he had chosen Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua to serve as his running mate.

“My dear Kenyans, cometh the hour, cometh the lady. I have the great honor to announce that I have picked as my running mate and cabinet secretary for justice and constitutional affairs Martha Wangari Karua,” Raila announced.

Although many observers had opined that this year’s presidential contest will be a two-horse race between Ruto and Odinga, Ahmednassir says the contest has been reduced to a one-horse race.

The lawyer, rightfully nicknamed the Grand Mullah in a statement on Tuesday, May 17, argued that the Raila-Karua presidential ticket has given the Kenya Kwanza coalition an easy win.

The senior counsel said Deputy President William Ruto will be running a one-man race if all other factors remain constant.

“From today, the great marathon runners from the Rift Valley, DP William Ruto will run a lonely one-man race to be elected president on Tuesday, August 9. He is running against himself. All things remaining constant, this will be the most lopsided presidential contest in Kenya’s electoral history,” Ahmednassir said in a Tweet.

The announcement by Raila came a day after, Deputy President William Ruto, picked Rigathi Gachagua, a former aide turned critic of President Uhuru Kenyatta to be his running mate.

Similar comments by the Grand Muller had earlier been raised by political commentator Gordon Opiyo who said that the former Justice Minister will not help ODM leader Raila Odinga to win the presidency.

“Now, I hope you now understand when I keep repeating that Raila Amolo Odinga has never been interested in getting power. Martha sounds great on paper. Kwa, Ground, where the rubber meets the road… It’s a different ball game…” Opiyo said.
