The Senate is one of the most important components in keeping the county governments in check.
Apart from protecting devolution, senators are tasked with the oversight role to ensure that the county governments are run in accordance with the laws establishing them.
Women, former governors, youths, and former senators are among the 47 senators who were elected in the just-concluded 2022 General Election.
President-elect William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party had the majority in the senate with 22 elected senators followed closely by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s ODM with 13 elected leaders.
