List of ex-governors eying government appointments in President Ruto’s administration

The Public Service Commission (PSC) has shortlisted 224 for Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) position in President Ruto’s government.

This was after the Employment and Labour Relations Court threw out a case filed by the Law Society of Kenya, challenging the establishment of the CAS positions in the public service.

Rtd President Uhuru Kenyatta had created the post to reward some of his allies who lost in the 2017 General Election.

President William Ruto decided to bring the post back to get more opportunities to reward his allies.

While the president had maintained that his government will be formed by hustlers including mama mboga and bodaboda, most of those shortlisted are politicians majority of who were vied on UDA in the 2022 polls.

For instance, there are at least 8 former County bosses who have been shortlisted and will be facing the interview panel starting on March 1, 2023.

Former Kisii Governor James Ongwae who joined Kenya Kwanza after Azimio’s narrow loss to the Kenya Kwanza government has been shortlisted together with his deputy Joash Maangi.

Noticeable in the list is former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero. Kidero vied for Homa Bay gubernatorial seat on an independent ticket but lost to former Homa Bay woman Rep Gladys Wanga who vied on an Orange Democratic Alliance (ODM) party.

Ex-Narok Governor Samuel Tunai who vied for the senatorial seat on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and lost to ODM’s Ledama Olekina has also been shortlisted. Tunai got 117, 869 votes against 135, 180 votes from Senator Olekina.

Also on the list is former Samburu Governor Moses Lenolkulal who had wanted to vie for a senatorial seat but was prevailed upon by President William Ruto to step down in favor of the current Senator Steve Lelegwe.
