List of Mt Kenya leaders eyeing Deputy President’s post

A number of leaders from Mt Kenya region are eyeing the Deputy President’s post from William Ruto and Raila Odinga.

Most of these contestants have been drawn from the region because most presidential aspirants believe it is the only strategy to win more votes from Mt Kenya.

With the lack of serious presidential contestants, the Mt Kenya region has been seen as the one to take up the Deputy President’s post in the 2022 General Election.

Here is a list of Governors and MPs from Mt Kenya eyeing the running mate positions in 202

Lee Kinyanjui

The Nakuru Governor is seeking to be Raila Odinga’s running mate in the 2022 General Election.

Kinyanjui has been accompanying Raila Odinga in his recent visits in the Mt Kenya , and was among Governors tasked to popularize him in the region.

Last month, the Governor publicly declared his support for Raila, and was later. Crowned as a Luo elder.

Mwangi Kiunjuri

The former Agriculture CS is among influential leaders in Mt Kenya who are eyeing the running mate position in 2022.

Being a supporter of Deputy President William Ruto, Kiunjruri has been rumored to be a possible candidate for the running mate position.

Mwangi Wa Iria

Even though the Murang’a Governor has declared his Presidential bid under the Ukweli Party, political intel indicates that he is up for grabs as a presidential running mate.

As his second term comes to an end, Wa Iria has not yet shown clear signs of supporting Raila Odinga or William Ruto.

Peter Kenneth

The former Gatanga MP is among those eyeing Deputy President’s post in Raila Odinga’s camp.

For this reason, Kenneth has been holding meetings with the ODM leader, and has earned the endorsement of a few Kikuyu elders.

William Kabogo

Having declared his presidential bid under the Tujibebe Wakenya Party, William Kabogo stands out as a possible running mate in the 2022 General Election.

Despite these leaders from Mt Kenya region lining up to take running mate positions, there is a huge dilemma on whether one of the One Kenya Alliance principals will shelve their ambitions and deputise Raila Odinga.
