List of politicians who have been ‘arranged’ by Ruto ahead of UDA nominations

by Enock Ndayala

Deputy President William Ruto has ‘arranged’ some of the leaders who were planning to seek various elective positions on the UDA party ticket.

As other political formations root for nominations, a process that has been marred with shortcomings, the Kenya Kwanza presidential flag bearer appears to be peacefully issuing nomination certificates in some areas without necessarily voting.

Known for his effective skills in managing nomination processes in parties, the former Eldoret North MP has helped all the other fringe parties coalescing under the Kenya Kwanza to avoid fallouts as witnessed in ODM leader Raila Odinga’s Azimio la Umoja.

Unlike in ODM where there have been protests following direct nominations in Homa Bay and Kilifi counties, Ruto has effectively managed the UDA nomination processes just as he did in the Jubilee party’s 2017 chaotic nomination exercises.

For instance, former Kakamega Governor Boni Khalwale was among the pioneers the deputy president fixed in a move that saw him shelve his gubernatorial ambitions in favor of Senator Cleophas Malala.

Just like Khalwale, Churchill Live Show comedian Jasper Muthomi, alias Mc Jessy was on Wednesday, April 13, convinced to drop his Imenti South parliamentary ambitions in favor of Mwiti Kathaara.

“MC Jessy (Jasper Muthomi) will join the presidential campaign team after postponing his parliamentary bid in favor of Mwiti Kathaara for the South Imenti Seat,” Ruto said.

Ford Kenya’s Gideon Moreka was also ‘fixed’ to drop his parliamentary ambition and endorse MP Sylvenus Osoro for the South Mugirango seat.

Moreka and Jessy have allegedly been promised slots in the government that would be formed should Ruto beat Raila in this year’s polls.

The two have been asked to focus on campaigning for the Kenya Kwanza presidential candidate.

In what the presidential hopeful says is negotiated democracy, the DP has also managed to convince Patrick Ngere to forgo his aspirations and back Alex Wambua Mwangangi for the Mwingi West Parliamentary seat.

Others include Alfred Nyangweso, Margaret Wanjiru, and Munene Njiru.

Njiru had expressed his ambitions for Kirinyaga’s senatorial seat, while Nyangweso and Wanjiru had expressed their ambitions for Kisiss and Nairobi’s gubernatorial ambitions.

Others include Samburu Governor Moses Lenolkulal, Mary Kerubo Nyasimi, and Charles Matoke among others.
