Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru to be arrested

by Nderi Caren

There is a looming arrest of Anne Waiguru over corruption at the Kirinyaga County government.

Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption are finalizing their investigations that could see Waiguru arrested alongside Kirinyaga Chief Finance Officer Mugo Ndathi, Assembly Speaker Anthony Gathumbi, Leader of Majority James Murango and chairman of the Budget Committee David Mathenge.

Anne Waiguru is on the grill due to the planned payment of KSh 52 Million for a dubious land survey tender and questionable allowances to the governor and county officials.

The looming arrest of Anne Waiguru alongside the Country Assembly officials could be witnessed next week, since the EACC has completed investigations and planned to hand over the files to DPP Noordin Haji any time.

Coincidentally, Waiguru’s looming arrest comes days after she joined Deputy President William Ruto’s UDA camp.

The County Assembly officials set to be arrested are among those who accompanied Waiguru to William Ruto’s residence on Tuesday, October 26.

On September 4, Anne Waiguru said that a political witch hunt was lodged against her by the EACC after her statement on the collapse of BBI.

She further added that the summons came after she gave a hint on changing her political camp after the collapse of BBI.

“Last time I said … ‘on BBI let me keep quiet a bit…’ immediately, EACC raided my office…  Recently I said am ‘… introspecting on the political way forward…’  and again, immediately I get EACC summons, complete with all the subtle threatening inflexibilities… and media alerts on an alleged payment of 52m,” Waiguru stated.

While welcoming her to William Ruto’s camp, Mathira Member of Parliament Rigathi Gachagua told Anne Waiguru to be prepared for a looming arrest.

Gachagua said that the state intimidates all allies of the Deputy President and Waiguru will not be left behind.
