Machakos governor accuses Uhuru, Raila of popularising William Ruto

by Enock Ndayala

Machakos governor Alfred Mutua has blamed President Uhuru Kenyatta and his handshake partner Raila Odinga for continuously engaging in acts that only serve to make William Ruto popular.

As the race for the 2022 presidential election gains momentum, it appears Uhuru and Raila enjoy working together and to ensure William Ruto does not succeed the retiring president.

This was evident on Monday, June 14, when the Head of State called on the National Super Alliance (NASA) principals to unite ahead of the 2022 General Election suggesting he will support one of the alliance’s co-principals for the country’s top job.

Speaking in Embakasi on Thursday, June 17, the Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader however argued that the plot by Uhuru and Raila to keep on talking ill of Ruto is serving to grow his political profile.

“Kenyan politics has become the politics of planning how people will oppose William Ruto. When you hear Uhuru and Raila talking, they are all aiming to oppose Ruto,

“And they should know that every time they are talking ill about Ruto they are scaling his popularity and reputation,” Mutua warned.

The second-term county boss who has expressed his ambitions to succeed retiring president Uhuru Kenyatta further asked those opposing Ruto to talk about what they will do for Kenyans should they form the next government.

“Leaders, let’s stop talking about Ruto, let’s talk about what we will do for the people, what policy do we have for the people because if we talk about Ruto every time he gets a score,” he added.

Mutua who was speaking during Party popularization exercise aimed at recruiting members further cautioned Kenyans against voting for thieves.

Although he did not mention names, Mutua who earlier on claimed that Ruto has achieved in Mt Kenya what late president Moi failed in 24 years, might have been targeting Ruto- who many in political circles associate with corruption.
