Machakos gubernatorial aspirant promises to convert county ‘State House’ into hospital

by Enock Ndayala

Machakos gubernatorial aspirant in the 2022 elections Johnson Muthama has vowed to convert the Governor’s multi-billion office into a health facility.

According to the former Machakos senator, the move by Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua to pump billions in building the county’s top office was ill-informed.

In a statement, Muthama who doubles up as the UDA chairman said should he succeed retiring governor Alfred Mutua, he will convert the building into a referral hospital as one of the measures to improve the health sector of Machakos hustlers.

“In my tenure as the Governor, I will convert that office block to a referral hospital to ensure that all residents have access to the highest possible standard of health care irrespective of where they live within the County,

“This will stop the unnecessary and costly movement of patients (seeking a high level of care) to Kenyatta Teaching as well as Referral Hospital in Nairobi City County because our people deserve better,” Muthama said in a Tweet.

The ‘Machakos White House’ sits on 2.5 acres of land in the ambiance of the slopes of Kiima Kimwe hill-the historic fortress of the father of the famous veteran freedom fighter, the late Joseph Paul Ngei.

Domiciled within the upcoming New Machakos City barely three kilometers from the county headquarters off Machakos-Nairobi highway, the Machakos White House has not only been termed as ‘a replica of State House’ but also the most magnificent and advanced governor’s office anywhere in Kenya.

The KSh 350 million county project which was built in less than a year is made up of the West Wing and East Wing.

The West Wing is where you can get the house of the governor and the office of the chief of staff.

It also has an in-house conference facility with a capacity of at least 200 people, where the governor can hold county meetings, meet MCAs and other guests.
