Makueni governor blasts his deputy for joining William Ruto

by Amos Khaemba

Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has termed the move by his Deputy Adelina Mwau to join Deputy President William Ruto’s party as selfish.

Through a statement on his Facebook page, Kibwana said Makueni people have already pledged to support Azimio la Umoja and will not be misled by selfish interests.

“The voice of Makueni (county) has always been our guide in decision making. I will not abandon that principle for political expediency. Adelina will walk alone,” Kibwana said.

The governor added that the move to defect to United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party without followers was a clear indication that his deputy’s move lacked the blessing of the Makueni people.

“She had even pledged to take with her a huge delegation of our common political friends to UDA, who declined her overtures,” said Kibwana.

Mwau was on Tuesday, January 25, received to UDA party by DP Ruto at his Karen residence in Nairobi.

“The hustler nation is growing bigger and bigger. This morning, we welcome Adelina Mwau, the Deputy Governor of Makueni County, to UDA. Karibu mama,” Ruto said in a tweet.

The deputy governor, who has worked with Kibwana for 9 years is eyeing the Makueni Woman Representative seat in the August 9, 2022, General Election.

Speaking to The Standard, Kibwana was more categorical that the move by his deputy marks the end of their political relationship.

“I am shocked to learn that my deputy is joining Ruto’s camp. She and I have worked well for two terms. She’ll now have to walk the political path alone, without our input,” Kibwana told The Standard.

He accused her of being a pretender, having attended meetings that and even played the role of a good host for the Azimio rally.

“I am shocked to learn that my deputy is joining Ruto’s camp. She and I have worked well for two terms. She’ll now have to walk the political path alone, without our input, it will be difficult for the two of us to work together,” Kibwana told The Standard on Tuesday.

Mwau was first elected in the office alongside Kibwana in the 2013 General Election, with the two defending their seats in the 2017 General Election.
