Martha Karua blasts President Ruto claiming Chebukati would be dead

by Enock Ndayala

On Tuesday, January 17, President William Ruto alleged that there was a direct attempt to kill outgoing IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati during the 2022 elections.

Ruto further claimed that Chebukati’s team was also offered bribes and threatened over the results of the August 9 presidential election.

“There was a direct attempt to abduct, and murder Chebukati so that the commission would be paralyzed or a compliant commissioner takes over and subvert the people’s sovereignty. It was a hard, cold, lonely time, the threats were dire, promised rewards lavish, and pressure relentless,” Ruto claimed.

On Tuesday, January 17, President William Ruto alleged that there was a direct attempt to kill outgoing IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati during the 2022 elections.

However, in a statement on Wednesday, January 18, Narc Kenya Party leader Martha Karua challenged the president to come clean on the allegations.

In a statement, Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party presidential candidate Raila Odinga’s running mate wondered why the President took all this long to make such damning remarks if indeed it was true.

Karua, further added that if the allegations were true, Chebukati would have exposed the claims himself and not the president going public on the matter.

“Why did Chebukati not disclose this to the court during the presidential petition or better still report the matter to the police? Six months into the Ruto regime why has no action been taken if these allegations have any iota of truth?” Martha Karua questioned.

Karua, commonly known as the Iron Lady termed President Ruto’s remarks as “Designed Propaganda” aimed at hoodwinking the public as well as undermining the opposition wing.

“My take is that this is carefully designed propaganda by a regime desperate to gain legitimacy by spewing outrageous falsehoods aimed at hoodwinking the public while undermining its competition,” Martha Karua added.
