Martha Karua campaigns past 7PM in Meru County as battle for Mt Kenya votes intensify

Azimio la Umoja leaders led by the coalition’s running mate candidate Martha Karua on Wednesday, May 18, intensified their campaigns in the vote-rich Mt Kenya region.

Karua who was flanked by Murang’a Woman Rep Sabina Chege and Agriculture CS Peter Munya among others made inroads to Laare, Muthara, and Makutano towns in Meru County, the campaigns that went on past 7 PM.

She used the moment to lobby the Mt Kenya voters to rally their support behind Azimio la Umoja presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga in his quest to succeed outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“Sisi tunakuja kwa kunyenyekea tutakuelezea mpaka dakika ya mwisho tuone yakwamba mlima Kenya yote iko nyuma ya Azimio (We come humbly to explain to you until the last minute to see that Mount Kenya is all behind the Azimio),” Karua said.

During her offensive charm, the former Gichugu MP pledged to bring back what she termed lost sheep back to the fold.

The Mt Kenya region has traditionally voted against the former Prime Minister something that is attributed to the fear but the endorsement by President Uhuru Kenyatta and the naming of the former Justice Minister as Azimio’s running mate is raising Raila’s hopes.

Karua is expected to take her vote-hunting mission to Tharaka Nithi County today Thursday, May 19.

This comes barely days after the former Minister for Water and Irrigation was named the presidential running mate for Raila Odinga.

This was after Karua beat 10 other seasoned politicians who were eying for the seat including Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, and his Mombasa counterpart Hassan Ali Joho.

Others who were salivating for the seat were Murang’a Woma Rep Sabina Chege, former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth, and Agriculture CS Peter Munya among others.
