Martha Karua’s friend claims rich Kikuyus don’t want her as Raila’s running mate

President William Ruto’s UDA party on Tuesday, October 3, submitted its proposal to the National Dialogue Committee (NDC) at the Bomas of Kenya.

Kenyan activist Boniface Mwangi and Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua‘s close friend has claimed a storm is brewing in the handshake team over who should be the ODM leader Raila Odinga’s running mate ahead of the August 2022 presidential election.

Mwangi, on Friday, January 28, said that while Raila has strongly considered Karua to be his running mate, President Uhuru Kenyatta and a section of rich Kikuyu businessmen, supporting Raila presidential ambition, don’t want her.

“Raila Odinga strongly favors Martha Karua to be his running mate but President Uhuru and the Kikuyu elite are afraid of her,” he said.

The activist, in a series of Tweets, claimed that it will be so easy for Karua, who has expressed her interest in Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat to succeed Raila and ascend to power after Raila’s five years, a move that will make the Mt Kenya tycoons hard to ‘milk the country dry.’

“They fear if anything happens to Baba (Raila Odinga) and Martha (Karua) becomes President, their access to looting will be closed and they will likely be jailed,” Mwangi added.

He argued that the Mt Kenya billionaires want a weak person to be Raila’s running mate so that they can easily loot public resources. He added that they want someone who they can easily replace.

“They want Raila’s Deputy to be a puppet they can replace easily. Martha Karua can’t be that puppet,” he said.

With less than 190 days to the August 9, General Election, President Uhuru Kenyatta’s finest successor Raila Odinga is considered to be looking for his running mate from the vote-rich Mt Kenya region.

The region which will not be fielding a serious presidential candidate has maintained that it will rally behind a presidential candidate who will guarantee them a running mate slot and at least 40 percent of state appointments.

Already, Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui and 2013 presidential loser Peter Kenneth are being considered to be Raila Odinga’s running in the upcoming elections.
