Martha Karua to be Raila or Mudavadi’s deputy in 2022

Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga has dropped the clearest hint that he will be picking Narc-Kenya leader Martha Karua as his running mate ahead of the August polls.

Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua is a potential candidate to be Raila Odinga or Musalia Mudavadi’s deputy in 2022 elections.

Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Tuesday, November 23, former Mukurweini MP Kabando wa Kabando said that the iron lady is sought after by the two presidential candidates.

He argued that Martha Karua stands in a better position to be a deputy in 2022 due to her popularity and nature as a reformist.

In the interview, Kabando was asked about the names of the possible running mate for Raila Odinga in the 2022 General Election.

“The first name I have heard very widely is of Martha Wangari Karua. The people across the ethnic divide talking about Martha Karua are looking for an individual who can be a deputy president with a potential to execute reformist agenda,” Kabando wa Kabando said.

The ex-MP added that Martha Karua is a prospective candidate for the running mate position among other presidential candidates including Musalia Mudavadi.

“The name of Martha has been going around and I know she is a serious discussion among many players. There are whispers that a Musalia candidature is still on the table with the possibility of Martha Karua being a running mate.

Additionally, Kabando explained that getting Martha Karua will not necessarily translate into getting the Mt Kenya votes for either Raila Odinga or Musalia Mudavadi.

His opinion comes amid high-gear discussions between the Mt Kenya Forum, which is led by Martha Karua, and the One Kenya Alliance members.

On Tuesday, November 23, the Mt Kenya Forum members including Martha Karua, Justin Muturi, and William Kabogo held discussions with OKA leaders(Musalia Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka, Gideon Moi, and Moses Wetangula).

The group is said to have discussed how to form a coalition to bring a third force into the 2022 State House race which has been described as one between William Ruto and Raila Odinga.
