Mathira MP: Please allow us to elect William Ruto as president

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was on Tuesday, December 20, crowned as the Mt Kenya political kingpin.

Mathira MP Rigathi Gacagua has asked President Uhuru not to let those supporting his deputy president William Ruto be intimidated while at it.

Speaking at the funeral of Kianjokoma brothers who died at the hands of police, the MP wondered why most politicians allied to William Ruto tend to be threatened by various state agencies.

He said just like the president has chosen to back ODM leader Raila Odinga as his successor, those who prefer William Ruto should be allowed to exercise their choice.

“We are past the years of politics of intimidation for we the people of Embu, Murang’a, Kiambu, Kirinyaga, and Meru are sons and daughters of freedom fighters,

“We should not be compelled to support a certain person for president. I want to respectfully tell President Uhuru, we have seen you have opted to support Raila Odinga…let us also support William Ruto,” said MP Rigathi Gacagua

Rigathi’s statement comes at a time 2022 dies appears to be cast with Uhuru Kenyatta making no secretes Raila Odinga is his preferred choice of successor.

In a recent meeting with other notable politicians, Kalonzo Musyoka, Moses Wetangula, Wycliffe Oparanya and Gideon Moi, President Uhuru is said to have asked them to throw weight behind Raila Odinga.

Reports suggest the president has intelligence William Ruto can easily win the 2022 presidential race in the first round if a strong team is not assembled against him.

The deputy president’s allies have been complaining of constant State harassment aimed at pushing them away from the former Agriculture minister.

MP Rigathi Gacagua for instance blamed his recent arrest over KSh 12 billion alleged fraud and money laundering on the fact he supports William Ruto.
