Embattled Migori Governor Okoth Obado has offered 2022 presidential hopefuls a chance to seek the presidency on his party’s ticket.

Speaking on Monday, December 13, when he opened the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Changamwe, Mombasa County, Obado said the party will field all candidates vying for all elective seats in the 2022 General Election.

“We will definitely field candidates vying for all elective seats including Members of County Assembly, Women Representatives, Members of Parliament, Senators and Governors across the 47 counties,

“And if there is any person interested in running for the presidency they should feel most welcome,” he said.

The retiring county chief who is also the party’s leader assured all aspiring candidates that his party will conduct free, fair, and transparent party primaries.

“We assure Kenyans that PDP will conduct free, fair, and transparent primaries in the forthcoming polls,” he said as quoted by the People Daily Digital.

In renewed efforts to grow the party membership in the build-up to the 2022 elections, Obado said his party will open regional offices in at least 24 counties.

In June, Obado who serving his second and last constitutional term as a governor had declared that he will be contesting the Presidential seat in the 2022 General Election.

Obado, who ditched Raila Odinga’s ODM to revive the PDP said he exited the Orange party after sensing that its party leader will be giving a fifth stab at the Presidency, a move that would deny him a chance at National politics.

“My exit from ODM is not in bad faith. I have taken a short break to strengthen the party that steered me to the governorship. It is the bus that ushered me into active politics and I am back to end the journey that I started,” Obado said in an interview with Ramogi FM.
