Migori governor threatens to finish Raila’s political dominance in the region

by Nderi Caren

Migori Governor Okoth Obado has become a threat to Raila’s ODM party after revealing his plans to join the People’s Democratic Party(PDP).

He is set to revamp the PDP party and use it for his further political ambitions.

It is believed the rertiring governor might be planning to join forces with William Ruto in what would raise his political profile further as he looks to neuralise Raila’s dominance.

The Governor who was elected into office under the ODM party has sent jitters to other members of the party and also the elders of the Luo Community at large.

The concerned persons fear that Obado’s move to leave the ODM party will have a negative impact on Raila’s dominance in the Nyanza Region.

Recently, the Governor met a section of elders and former MPs from the community in his Rapogi home. Led by the elders’ chairman Nyandiko Ongadi, the group persuaded Obado to take responsibility of being the spokesperson for South Nyanza region.

Obado has taken these actions because he believes that the ODM party is behind the multiple cases that are facing him.

He has pending corruption charges in court and also survived an attempt by Migori MCAs to impeach him last year.

The impeachment motion, he said, was a political witch hunt by a section of leaders in his party.

Speaking to Taifa Leo, an MCA from Migori revealed that indeed there is a plan to reduce Obado’s influence and even kick him out of the ODM party.

“The leadership of ODM is not pleased with Obado’s growing popularity and they have sworn to use all means possible to dehorn him” the anonymous MCA told Taifa Leo.

Last week, Obado was given a seven day notice to leave ODM before he is kicked out.
