Miguna Miguna: Even if they rig, Ruto shall still beat Raila in presidential race

by Amos Khaemba
Raila Odinga has been overtaken by Ruto as the most preferred presidential candidate in the latest opinion poll.

Canada-based lawyer Miguna Miguna has claimed that Deputy President William Ruto shall still beat the ODM leader Raila Odinga in the presidential race even if elections are rigged.

Through his Twitter handle on Saturday, March 5, the controversial lawyer used vulgar language to insist that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s influence will not deny William Ruto’s victory in the August polls.

“I have bad news for those hoping and desperately wishing that the ‘despot’ Uhuru Kenyatta will rig the August 9, 2022 election for ‘conman’ Raila Odinga.

“You will wait until Jesus Christ returns. ‘Conman’ Raila Odinga and the ‘Azimio la Utapeli’ (Umoja) will be defeated at 10 AM,” Miguna wrote on Twitter.

Miguna’s sentiments on rigging come after DP Ruto caused a storm by claiming that there was a conspiracy to tilt the August 9, presidential results.

While speaking in the United States, the deputy president alleged that there was a deliberate attempt by a group of State actors to weaponize the criminal justice system to make people vote in a certain way.

“There is a lot of blackmail, intimidation, and use of criminal justice system to intimidate leaders to ask people to vote in a certain way. I am very confident that the will of the people of Kenya will prevail,” William Ruto said on Wednesday, March 2.

The second in command went ahead to appeal to the global community to intervene and help stop attempts by his bitter rivals to influence the outcome of the upcoming elections in which he is expected to vie for the presidency against Raila Odinga and others.

The ODM leader Raila Odinga came out to term the remarks by DP Ruto as reckless, irresponsible, and uncalled for especially at a time when Kenya’s democratic space has opened up.

“IEBC is an independent body; going to press with the claims of rigging elections when multiple political parties have vouched to back Raila Odinga’s presidential bid is enough testament that this group (William Ruto’s group) has panicked. Prepare to accept, and move” Raila said in a press statement seen by Kivumbi.co.ke

Already the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has launched investigations into the recent allegations by Deputy President William Ruto over plans to rig the upcoming presidential elections.
