Miguna Miguna thanks President Ruto’s government for his return

by Enock Ndayala

Controversial lawyer Miguna Miguna returned to the country on Thursday, October 20, after almost five years in exile.

The lawyer docked at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) a few minutes past 6: 00 am.

Addressing his supporters and the media after landing, Miguna, a fierce critic of Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party president William Ruto and Rtd President Uhuru Kenyatta thanked President Ruto for facilitating his return.

He further thanked Kenyans for overwhelmingly voting for Kenya Kwanza Alliance in the August 9, presidential election saying he would not have been back if Raila Odinga would have won the presidential election.

“I must extend my gratitude to Kenyans who voted overwhelmingly for the Kenya Kwanza government because that is central to me. Without this administration, I would not be back home,” he said.

His return comes barely a week after the new regime lifted the red alerts imposed on him barring his return to the country.

According to him, it took the intervention of President William Ruto, who promised to do away with the existing Red Alerts that had posed a stumbling block to his return journey.

“I’m happy to announce that President William Ruto has assured me that the red alerts will be lifted on Wednesday, September 14, 2022. Thereafter, I will have my Kenyan Passport renewed, and I’ll announce the date of my return to my motherland. Bravo!” Miguna said in September.

In March 2022, the then-UDA presidential candidate William Ruto promised to facilitate Miguna’s return if he wins the presidency.

“We will bring Miguna Miguna back into the country within the shortest time possible. This is because he is a Kenyan, he has not committed any crime and even if he has we have laws in place that he would be tried against,” William Ruto said.
