Miguna Miguna wonders why US never bans President Uhuru over corruption

by Amos Khaemba

Exiled lawyer Miguna Miguna has blasted the United States’ move to ban former Mike Sonko, wondering why they have never banned President Uhuru Kenyatta over corruption.

Taking to Twitter on Tuesday, March 8, the controversial lawyer said the US should target President Uhuru, whom he alleges to have stashed trillions tax payers’ money in overseas accounts

“The Joe Biden and Kamala Harris (US president and deputy president) administration is a joke. They have not banned despot Uhuru Kenyatta who has plundered Kenya and stashed trillions of taxpayers’ money in offshore accounts as documented by Pandora papers, yet they go after Omena (small fish) like Mike Sonko,” Miguna wrote on Twitter.

The outspoken former Raila ally, castigated the US, terming their action selective as many corruption scandals have happened under the watch of President Uhuru but no action has been taken.

“Has the White House heard of KMSA, NYS, Eurobond, Anglo Leasing, and other scandals through which the Kenyatta, Moi, and their associates stole hundreds of billions of shillings?” Miguna posed.

“White House must decide whether it wants Kenyans to consider it part of a coverup or not,” Miguna added.

Sentiments by the exiled lawyer, come after flamboyant former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and his immediate family were banned from traveling to the United State over corruption allegations related to abuse of office and bribery.

Through a Press release on Tuesday, March 8, The U.S Department of State stated that the former governor has been banned for involvement in significant corruption related to abuse of office and bribery.

“The U.S. Department of State is designating former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko Gideon Mbuvi Kioko due to his involvement in significant corruption.  While in office, Governor Sonko solicited bribes and kickbacks in exchange for awarding government contracts to his associates.” The U.S stated.

Sonko joins, Busia Senator Amos Wako, to be the second Kenyans to be publicly banned from traveling to the US during President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government over corruption allegations.

In 2019, Busia Senator Amos Wako (former Attorney General), his wife, and his son were banned from traveling to the United States over corruption allegations.
